Tim Jourdan – Motorsport and Camera Enthusiast

I am Tim Jourdan, a young guy from Switzerland with a passion for motorsport and capturing it with my camera.

My journey began watching the F1 cars of the early 2000s on TV. I remember saying to myself: “One day, I want to hear, see and feel those cars live.” Since then I have been a big fan of Formula 1 and motorsport in general. Sadly, I am very bad at math, so a job as an engineer never was an option. But the dream to one day work in motorsport lived on. I also have always been a fan of TopGear and how they manage to tell a story and transfer emotions about a car through images.

So a few years ago I made a YouTube channel, just for the fun of it. But with the pandemic, I started to take editing and recording more serious and went on to upload videos of me and my friends. I began to edit footage of us gaming together and everytime we went karting or went to the mountains, I brought my GoPros. With every Video, I tried to do something new while editing the footage.

Besides that, I also started to get into sim racing a while back. I thought, rather than just racing fast cars virtually, why not go and try to record motorsport at a proper track? So naturally, I started following some videographers and photographers on Instagram. I realized quickly, that I don’t want to stick to videography, and also want to learn how to freeze a car in time and make it look good.

After saving up, I finally bought my first DSLR and a few lenses with it. My range now goes all the way up to 600mm because I realized pretty quickly, that I wanted to catch the details of the cars and drivers. Plus I can now go to pretty much all the big tracks in Italy, Germany and France without being in fear of missing a shot because of the big runoff areas.

Since then, I have been going to various events ranging from Karting, Motorbikes, Endurance Racing and GT Events. With every event I attend, I try new techniques, angles and shots in order to gain as much experience as I can.

I have worked for a trackday company (Valentinos) a few times, where I got paid to take and provide pictures for the clients of the company.

So far my biggest achievements was the usage of my pictures in the SAM-Motojournal and being officially accredited by the Hockenheimring and the Hankook 24h Series. Also, I have been asked by the Swiss Formula 4 Team Maffi racing to send in my work after an event, as well as by a few Drivers in the Fanatec GT and the European/Scandinavian GT4 Series.

My dream is to one day do this for a living and work together with drivers and teams. Oh, and I still want to experience those old F1 cars live…
